Overview

Taste Of The Caribbean Utah rests quietly on 2943 E 3300 S in Salt Lake City, a modest storefront that holds a rich trove of authentic Jamaican flavors. This Caribbean restaurant shines by focusing on soul-nourishing dishes that reconnect diners to the vibrant culinary heart of the islands. If you crave genuine jerk chicken, tender oxtails with butterbeans, or richly spiced curry lamb and goat, this is a destination to mark on your map.

The main attractions are certainly the mains—oxtail stewing to fall-off-the-bone perfection with deeply infused seasoning, and the jerk chicken, which balances smoky sweetness with just enough bite to awaken the palate. The rice and peas, cooked with coconut milk, stands out as a comfort staple elevated to an art form. Each plate carries an abundance of flavor and generous portions, ensuring a satisfying, hearty experience that speaks directly to the Caribbean’s culinary traditions.

The sides offer complementary textures and flavors. Fried plantains provide a caramelized sweetness, while Caribbean cabbage slaw and potato salad bring a crisp, refreshing balance. Though these are supportive players, their authentic seasoning rounds out the meal gracefully.

Though the space is designed as a to-go spot, the warmth comes from the people behind the counter—owners and staff who embody Caribbean hospitality. Their attentiveness and genuine friendliness translate the laid-back island spirit, crafting an experience as memorable as the food itself. Drinks like the pineapple ginger or lime ginger juices offer a bright, tangy counterpoint to the rich, savory dishes.

Taste Of The Caribbean Utah appeals especially to those who seek authenticity. Born Jamaicans and locals alike praise the genuine flavors rooted in family recipes and cultural heritage. For visitors and residents yearning for more than just food, it delivers an immersive taste of island life through carefully prepared meals and inviting service.

In a city where Caribbean cuisine can sometimes feel diluted, this gem stands out as an anchor of true, bold flavors and generous hospitality. For soul food that tastes like a journey to the islands, this is a spot that more Salt Lake diners should discover. Practical, flavorful, filled with heart—Taste Of The Caribbean Utah serves an experience that lingers long after the last bite.

OUTSTANDING. I stumbled across this place by accident and what a find. The oxtail and butterbeans platter was so delicious. Service was great. The owner Chai was really friendly and cool. Even the mango juice with ginger was well above average. It's to-go only but you leave with a heavy platter of soul nourishing Caribbean food.

I am SPEECHLESS!! This is one of the best plates of food I have ever had in my entire life!! I am absolutely mind blown after having the oxtail plate. It was the most tender and flavorful meat, the rice was incredibly seasoned, the slaw and potato salad were exquisite compliments to it all. This place lived up to and beyond it's name, a true and fantastic taste of the caribbean!! The sweet woman behind the counter even made sure that my food stayed nice and hot for when I came to pick it up. I will be taking everyone I know there to have this experience. I want everyone to be as addicted as I am. Thank you, thank you!! Update: Another banger, returned last night to grab some more delicious grub from my favorites and I was not disappointed. Got the jerk chicken and the curry chicken along with all of the fixings and loved every bite. My partner was blown away by the amazing flavors.. the owner was so sweet, he was out of oxtail (which was my first choice) but he offered to put oxtail gravy on the jersey chicken for me which was chef's kiss Thank you all for what you do, I promise to keep sending people your way! By the way, the house pineapple ginger juice was so flavorful, absolutely on point as usual!!

I wasn't sure what to expect looking at this place from the outside but it is truly a gem of a restaurant in Salt Lake. The service is SO friendly and hospitable and the food blew my socks off. Hope they upgrade their location because they deserve more attention and more customers. Get the lime ginger drink, its PHENOMENAL and pairs so well with the food.

Imagine: you are on an island, chilling by the beach, sipping on a pineapple ginger flavored juice and watching the waves crash and retreat. A friend is to your left roasting meats over a smoky fire. It smells sweet and earthy. That is exactly the type of experience you will get if you eat the food here! I wasn't super impressed with the slaw or potato salad, but they were still good and enjoyable! However, the fall of the bone jerk chicken was like nothing else! You don't even need a knife! Just touch it with a fork, and watch it fall apart in its own tenderness! And the flavor! Mind-blowing! While yes, it could have been spicier, it had the perfect combination and balance of sweet and earthy. And the rice & peas... I was not prepared! Usually, rice served at restaurants is ok at best, but clearly not from the Caribbean! There were so many subtle flavors in the rice from the coconut milk, I was again blown away! If there was a best rice in SLC award, Taste of Caribbean should get it! The plantains were solid and a nice touch to the meal. The price for a full plate, pineapple ginger juice, and the tip was nearly $30. That is a pretty high price, but it was 100% worth it! Congrats! You made it to the end! GO TASTE THE CARIBBEAN!

Chai hooked it up!! He makes AMAZING food. Easily some of the best Caribbean food that I’ve had in Salt Lake. The Jerk Chicken was fantastic, and the Mango Juice was phenomenal.
